We did have an eye to their interests and made sure there was provision for New Zealand lamb and butter.

Was still a betrayal in my opinion though a slightly tempered one.

They're being open, forgiving, generous, positive and polite. That's absolutely the sort of country we should be working with.

Not quite. In 1960 we were a founding member of EFTA so we could trade with Commonwealth counties. Unfortunately they wanted access to our markets but weren't so keen about the UK having access to their markets. EFTA wasn't enough, our economy went further into decline & we left to join the EEC.
