My DH and I have had a long discussion this morning. We voted remain and are quite nervous about the current political instability that the vote has triggered and the potential consequences of this. We have decided we'll;

  1. Take our house off the market and stay where we are.
  1. Stop any unnecessary spending (visits to coffee shops, meals out, luxury items), in part, because we don't want to help the UK economy when we don't agree with the Political climate, but also, to save more for DC's future. We just don't know what they'll have to face in 10/20 years.

I suspect we are BU. Are you making any changes?

There will always be racist people. If the vote had been remain those people would most likely have behaved the same, if not worse. No leave voters that I know, or the majority that I have seen posts from on here have shown any racist views.

Goodness, people need to calm down.

PurplePetals · 26/06/2016 17:26

We're going too. We were already considering it as we've lived abroad before, but this has cemented our decision.
It's not for economic reasons necessarily (we've lived through recessions before and survived), but we want to have some stability in our and our DCs lives and the we feel the UK won't give us that, especially in the short term.
That, and the idea of living in country run by BoJo and Gove is intolerable!

goddessofsmallthings · 26/06/2016 17:30

Am I the only one who is coming to the conclusion that, apropos of the pearl clutching hysteria of the past few days, I've previously given my fellow mumsnetters credit for more intelligence than many actually possess?

Fyi, OP, curtailing your visits to coffee shops is highly unlikely to achieve your desired aim of hindering the UK's economy but, if you are joined by sufficient likeminded idiots folk, it will have a negative effect on the economies of many poorer countries and on all of those farmers, workers, and their families, whose welfare and wellbeing is dependent on growing and selling coffee crops.

CreepyPasta · 26/06/2016 17:35

No goddess I agree, it's ridiculous Confused

hewl · 26/06/2016 17:35

If this is a genuine post then I despair. It's also blackly funny and incredibly pretentious.

emeraldlakes · 26/06/2016 17:36

I agree with you goddessofsmallthings - really didn't expect many of the posters of Mumsnet to behave in this manner. It's the name calling and blatant nastiness that's got me.

MiracletoCome · 26/06/2016 17:39

I'm sure it must only be like this on MN as when I went out today to the shops everything seemed to be carrying on as normal. People were spending money, buying coffee and getting the weekly shop, there seemed to be no hysteria.

glassgarden · 26/06/2016 17:45

I think there's a lot of shooting from the hip and blowing off steam on here

in the offline world we are probably all carrying on as normal
ish

hewl · 26/06/2016 17:45

I've just been to Waitrose, and along with a few bits and pieces and a decent bottle of wine, I bought a flowery reusable coffee cup. That might be an option OP? Probably a good thrifty idea in any case, especially now you seem to think it will be like Dawn Of the Dead out there in a day or two Hmm

I completely agree. One of my friends on FB posted that she was distraught about the result as her children were planning a few years study in Europe to give them a head start in the job market

Hmm
GahBuggerit · 26/06/2016 17:52

100% agree Boiled

We had nothing to lose, and when the likes of fucking David Beckham show his perfect bloody face on my FB feed saying how we'll be worse off....will WE now David Hmm

callherwillow · 26/06/2016 17:53

Spot on boiled

Hugo may never get to study European law in Paris, but it was fine when the factory Jayden's dad worked at closed down.

Lemonlady22 · 26/06/2016 17:55

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 26/06/2016 17:55

GahBuggerit · 26/06/2016 17:57

The Remain camp failed to speak to us

BabooshkaKate · 26/06/2016 17:58

If Section 50 is invoked I will cancel the various subscription services I have (Hello Fresh, make up, Beer) and will bring lunch to work 4 days out of 5 instead of 1 of 5 as I currently do. I will try to buy a cheap house.

We've had this discussion, we live somewhere likely to be v negatively impacted by vote leave. High level of financial services. My DH job is significantly less secure and mine will be affected. We have decided to hunker down, no unnecessary spending.

I really can't see how leave will help those in disadvantaged areas...

GahBuggerit · 26/06/2016 18:06

probably wont help us, but as i say it cant get much worse!

failure to see that has led to where we are

Rdoo · 26/06/2016 18:19

It won't but that doesn't matter because they're out vote was a opportunity to stick it to those who dare to have more than them.

nanetterose · 26/06/2016 18:52

Totally agree with boiled
You've hit the nail on the head!

Comfortzone · 26/06/2016 18:52

Boiledfart your post is very much us & them. What if those who voted leave as a punishment vote actually thought about the impact of their vote on the entire country, not just on the well off?

because the result clearly hasn't just affected the well off, it actually will badly affect those who had nothing in the first place.

So understand please that NO ONE wins here.

Not those who live in low income areas, and neither those with secure jobs previously reliant on EU finding. Simply because shock horro - that money from the EU will NO LONGER be available. For anyone. it really is that simple.

See now how EU funding didn't discriminate? See now how the high taxes paid by bankers etc and those who have studied for years (many also from working class backgrounds) to get to the top of their careers - high taxes which won't now be put into the pot to fund the benefits and lifestyles of those who are unemployed
