Genuinely interested in knowing how they know the percentages of how the age groups voted. Did I miss something? I marked a cross in a box on a otherwise unidentifiable piece of paper. What wizardry have I missed?

There was a private exit poll done by Lord Ashcroft (the polling magnate). If you google it you will find it easily.

When you register to vote they know who you are and what your statistics are and then they check your right to vote against your polling card.

If you vote by post you have to include two parts in separate envelopes but with codes on. One is your eligibility and the other's your polling card with your vote.

Ah I see!! It was a poll completed by a random group of people. I must have missed this info and thought it was info on the actual results of the referendum. Thanks mumsnetters
