He was very good during the referendum, though he certainly took his time to decide which side he was going to be on.

As a potential pm though? Yet another London centric Eton educated toff? If anything this is partly what people voted against..

Surely we need someone who was committed to brexit and who represents the majority who voted out?

Granted 75% of our mps are now yesterday's men who should consider their positions, rather than spouting nonsense on TV.

She stood with David Cameron once or twice, but didn't actively campaign.

Theresa May is who I want but not a good move for her given the two years we have to face. I think they are going to have to use the free movement of people as a bargaining tool and unless it is a pro leave leader there will be accusations of not negotiating hard enough and possible sabotage.

Did not have the courage of her professed difficulties with EU control over Home Offices issue to actually actively campaign for Leave. Second-rate has been from an earlier period who shows far too much cleavage and thinks looking stern is a substitute for dialogue

Not Nicky Morgan who is completely out of her depth in Cabinet

Not Anna Soubry who I think is a nosy vacuous moron

Not Amber Rudd - since she stooped to personal attacks

Those of you who want Theresa May please remember she signed away our right to Habeas Corpus when she voluntarily signed up to the European Arrest Warrant. She gave away more of our powers and rights without any public debate or consultation.

She told Tory Conference that immigration levels were unsustainable but knew she had no control whatsoever in respect of EI migration - yet chose not o join the Leave campaign to regain our control of such issues.

She is not acceptable to us committed Brexit campaigners

Not this time. This time the Party has to show it is serious about Brexit by appointing an active Eurosceptic. This EU boil needs to be lanced once and for all. Not acceptable to have a compromise candidate this time that will be weak and give the pro-EU lot encourage and the whole sorry blue on blue starts again.

Don't blame Leave for that, blame the Government that set this referendum in train and then attempted to gerrymander the result it desired while totally refusing to contemplate formulating plans for the alternative decision.

Why should a campaign that has no power to govern dictate an exit strategy to the EU? That's ridiculous and undemocratic.

WhatLeave did was hand a democratic mandate to the Government telling them that the Uk wishes to leave the EU and as will still live in a democracy the people expect the Government to take the necessary steps to make that happen.

As it happens the Government did admit quietly that Brexit planning had been taking place - hence Mark carney popping up today to put the market's at ease. Notice that Cameron initially said he would invoke A50 but then changed his mind and said that was a matter for his successor.

Cameron's understanding of the EU seems to be pretty shallow - as he thought he could control EU immigration, which he couldn't ad thought he had a water-tight special deal which many experts think was unenforceable. better that someone who does understand the EU takes over and takes the necessary Brexit steps

Well given that many leading leave campaigners are members of the government and sit in the cabinet it seems strange that the had no strategy at all.

There are multiple strategies. However the Leave campaign's sole purpose was to determine the mandate to hand to the Government. the Leave campaign had no authority to hand a solution to the Government. The role of the Government is to implement the stated wishes of its people.

Only the Government can formulate the plan because only the Government has access to the full range of information some of which is not in the public domain, necessary to formulate that plan.

The leave campaign was a cross party affair which sought a mandate.

That mandate has to be taken forward by someone committed to the cause.

Interesting that the EU still seems to think it has power over our government. They might want brexit to start as soon as possible but frankly that isn't up to them and highlights their arrogance.

Of all the candidates I think I'd favour David Davis. Might be a bit odd with a tory party lead by a libertarian and a libertarian party run by a tory but he is a committed euro sceptic and would I think take things in the right direction.

Not sure whether he would stand though.

Would love to see more of Ruth Davidson. She was great in the BBC debate. I think and hope she is going to gain a higher profile within English politics rather than being associated with Scottish politics

As I said on another thread, no way will it be Boris. We can't have someone who has completely burnt their bridges with the EU, as he did so when he compared it to a Nazi superstate.

Their skills and diplomacy are more important than their stance in the referendum.
