Without googling - can you name your MEP? And are you in/out/don't know?

Just wondering (especially if there is any correlation between knowing and preferring to remain).

I don't know, and am still a don't know.

Sorry, that should of course be 'can you name any of your regional MEPs?' as it's not quite like a constituency MP.

Yes. And in.

ApocalypseSlough · 20/06/2016 22:08

I don't know my MEP, I'll look it up now. Grin
I'm voting in.

LineyReborn · 20/06/2016 22:09

In.

HoneyDragon · 20/06/2016 22:10

Roger Helman and Glynnis thingummy or something along those lines.

Does that count as knowing?

MrsBlackthorn · 20/06/2016 22:11

Yes. I'm signed up to get their newsletter monthly which tells me what they've been working on.

OrangesandLemonsNow · 20/06/2016 22:11

Yes and out

AnguaResurgam · 20/06/2016 22:12

Does that count as knowing? Yes, I think it does.

DinosaursRoar · 20/06/2016 22:12

I can remember his surname, but not first. And am back to being a 'don't know'.

Tartyflette · 20/06/2016 22:14

Yep, I 've even met him. (Well, one of them, I think there are three for this region.)
In. Probably.

Grumpysfirstwife · 20/06/2016 22:16

No, haven't got a clue but I'm off to find out and voting out.

allegretto · 20/06/2016 22:23

I follow her on FB so have a good idea what she does .

Sunseed · 20/06/2016 22:24

Two out of eight, and still wavering.

BertrandRussell · 20/06/2016 22:25

"Yes and in (but not voting)."

You won't be bothered if it turns out to be "out" then?

Brokenbiscuit · 20/06/2016 22:37

None of us have only one MEP. The European Parliament constituencies are quite large and there are several MEPs for each area.

The leave campaign keeps trying to make a thing out of the fact that so few of us know our MEPs, and this is being used to highlight how undemocratic the EU supposedly is. However, I think the real reason we don't know them is because we each have several. This is thanks to the system of proportional representation rather than any fundamental failure of democracy. PR is arguably far more democratic and representative than our first past the post system.

I could name a couple of my MEPs but not all. I do know which parties they all represent.

Brokenbiscuit · 20/06/2016 22:38

Perhaps alleg doesn't have the opportunity to vote?

Grumpysfirstwife · 20/06/2016 22:57

I've googled and can honestly say I've never heard of any of them. Surely I should know their names but no, not a jot, I don't know their names or faces. Confused

ilovesooty · 21/06/2016 00:37

Yes. I've communicated at some point with all of them.

In.

PinkBuffalo · 21/06/2016 18:55

Nigel is one of our meps, but I don't know any of the others. Not a fan of him, but I suppose at least people know who he is unlike the others Confused

PinkBuffalo · 21/06/2016 18:57

Oh and I am out, but absolutely nothing to do with farage. I am not a fan of him

allegretto · 21/06/2016 20:03

Sorry - it was a bit ambiguous. I can't vote as I have been out of the UK for more than 15 years. Sad

sparkleshine83 · 21/06/2016 20:04

No, but I did vote for them, and in.
