Fantastic quote from Bob Geldof about Nigel Farage:

"You were on the European Parliament Fishing Committee and you attended one out of 43 meetings."

We don't vote ukip MEPs in for them to act as yet another rubber stamp.

Their goal is to undermine the EU, not to help them.

nearlyhellokitty · 16/06/2016 14:31

While basically betraying the UK's interests spinflight.

Pangurban1 · 16/06/2016 23:35

BritBrit The UK has more fishing waters & more fishing stocks than all other EU nations combined

How do you figure that out about the fishing waters? Is there a real source for this?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockall_Bank_dispute

Just looking at this map from the rockall plateau dispute, it appears that just Ireland and the Faroe Islands fishing waters are nearly, if not as big as the UK waters. That is before the waters of any other single country is added.

Do you just make up stuff? And if that is blatantly made up, can anyone trust any other thing you say?

Pangurban1 · 16/06/2016 23:37

Ok, humble pie on the faroe islands. although in Denmark, not part of EU. still don't believe that Ireland's waters and a bit more are not bigger than UK's.

Pangurban1 · 16/06/2016 23:50

www.eurocean.org/np4/80.html

Look half way down. There is a table and a map below it showing respective fishing waters. Although they seem to include the Faroe Islands as part of EU EEZ for some reason in the colour chart.

UK most certainly does not have more fishing waters than all the other EU nations combined!

Spinflight · 17/06/2016 00:14

"UK most certainly does not have more fishing waters than all the other EU nations combined!"

Not more so much as better. See my post where I included a map showing the continental shelf. These are the fish rich waters and we have the majority within our EEZ.

Interesting to think that establishing an outpost such as a lighthouse capable of sustaining human habitation and economic life ( I'm thinking a website selling souvenirs would do it!) would technically allow us to further extend our EEZ.

No point at the moment as it would extend the EU's but worth thinking about. :)

FFS the British government has all the powers it needs to fix the small fishermens problems already. Why isn't it using them? Because it long since stopped giving a shit about fishing, and unfortunately many of us Brits did too so there was no pressure to help them.

Stop blaming everything on the EU. Take a closer look at whether our British government is doing its job properly.

A lot of people are going to be very disappointed when leaving doesn't actually solve their problems.

Spinflight · 18/06/2016 13:07

I'm not convinced that you understand this subject.

As part of our EU membership the EU has stolen the vast majority of our fish. The only way the government could solve this is by leaving the EU.

BreakingDad77 · 18/06/2016 13:55

People power can get stuff done in the EU, in spite of Farage doing fack all.

I get it that Farage is anti EU but don't sit on any of the committees if you aren't going to contribute anything.

Leavers need to stop applying blame to the EU for UK government problems.

BeakyMinder · 18/06/2016 14:05

Nice! Why don't we ever hear these stories about positive change? The press is still obsessed with problems that were solved years ago, like bendy bananas FFS.

Guess some people figure it's easier to throw a hissy fit and leave.

Spinflight · 18/06/2016 14:11

If fishermen lived in central London and called themselves Goldman Sachs or JP Morgan then the government might be in their side.

The government don't give a damn and couldn't do anything about it if they did. It gets in the way of their EU ambitions, is merely an embarrassing relic of their previous incompetence and highlights many uncomfortable issues.

BeakyMinder · 18/06/2016 14:20

Indeed. And replacing the current Tory government with another Tory government led by Boris Johnson (that well known champion of fishermen) helps ... how, exactly?

BreakingDad77 · 18/06/2016 15:14

The only way you'd un-tory Gove and Boris.

Leave the EU and we get all of our fish back, simples.

Doesn't matter which government we have.

Leave fishing to the Tories unbridled capitalism, and we'll have no fish left within 5 years...

People seem to have very short memories of how much over-capacity and over fishing there was was going on and how fish stocks were getting decimated.

Itinerary · 18/06/2016 18:11

I don't think it's really very likely that the over-fishing problem would recur these days after a "leave" vote. Things move on and there's more awareness of sustainable fishing now.

Spinflight · 18/06/2016 21:09

Lol,

Our fishing industry has been so decimated that even if all these nasty unprincipled fishermen that you seem to know so well fished around the clock it wouldn't dent the current catches.

The UK's capacity will grow, which gives the stocks time to replenish as it would take several years.

I have no problem with you slandering politicians, what the hell do you have against fishermen though?

Found it rather difficult to get past the bit where he compares people who wish to leave the EU with creationists who dispute evolution...

Nice way for a supposed academic to insult more than half the population.

Please point out my blatant lies Eels and refrain in the future from posting unsubstantiated insults.

Itinerary · 19/06/2016 03:51

he compares people who wish to leave the EU with creationists who dispute evolution...

I've heard it all now! Statistically, the vast majority of the leave side aren't creationists or UKIP supporters. We're just ordinary people like anyone else who for various reasons would like to leave the EU.

OrangesandLemonsNow · 19/06/2016 09:41

Oh dear, yet more blatant lies

Well the video you posted is rather nasty isn't it.

Calling all those who want to leave 'creationists who dispute evolution' Hmm
