I want in because I am a lawyer and I would have to learn lots of new laws if we left

My mum wants out because she likes to get one over on me

Most selfish reason? Being able to continue to use my blue badge in all EU countries free automatically ( and IME they are better respected there).

alltouchedout · 14/06/2016 08:45

I suppose my most selfish reason is that dh is Polish and I don't want to jump through hoops to secure his right to be here with us.

BertieBotts · 14/06/2016 08:46

I really like living in a different country to MIL.

Chalalala · 14/06/2016 08:56

most selfish reason: I'd probably want to apply for British citizenship in the event of Brexit, and that's bloody expensive.

KP86 · 14/06/2016 09:01

I am also voting for what I believe is the greater good even thought I believe that personally I would be better off voting the other way.

AMomentaryLapseOfReason · 14/06/2016 09:08

Remain, Because it would be a disaster at work if we voted to leave. European friends and colleagues, EU students (really good ones who it is a pleasure to teach) and EU funding for research all adversely impacted by a leave vote.

aginghippy · 14/06/2016 10:05

mollie123 Have you read the thread title? Hmm What is your most selfish reason for wanting the result you want?

That's why everyone is posting selfish and ridiculous reasons for staying. It's meant to be lighthearted. Biscuit

penisbeakerlaminateflooringetc · 14/06/2016 10:09

I'm not allowed to vote. But I'd vote in so I won't have to go through the hassle of applying for second passports for my kids so they can still enjoy freedom of movement. (And so we can queue up together at passport control.)

Because DHs job will move to the US and we will have to follow it even though it will mean leaving my stepkids behind. Many big and small biotech firms (including DHs) have hiring freezes on and have been very clear that jobs will go so there's unlikely to be any other work here for him. It breaks my heart to think of splitting up the kids.

unexpsoc · 14/06/2016 10:20

Blimey - this might change my mind to Leave. All these bloody Polish and Dutch men, coming over here, stealing our potential wives.

lavenderdoilly · 14/06/2016 10:23

I don't want to pay for yet another set of bloody passports because the ones I have are suddenly considered tainted with euroness.

flippinada · 14/06/2016 10:32

Because I've just paid £72 quid to renew my passport. And the euros thing.

Notbigandnotclever · 14/06/2016 10:40

In because holiday money.

I would however like to vote out of European football and the Eurovision Song Contest.

slug · 14/06/2016 11:20

So many of DD's friends would have to leave. She comes home from school with a smattering of Bulgarian, French, German, Latvian and Italian on top of the Spanish she is studying for GCSE.

My job is at risk if we leave.

However, the most selfish reason is I have had enough of Boris' ambitions, the overprivileged, misogynistic, racist twat. He made a mess out of governing London and essentially checked out of bothering after he was elected the second time around. I'm looking forward to the internal collapse of the Tories after the referendum.

TattyCat · 14/06/2016 11:21

Um... you won't need to renew your passport! It will be renewed with a British passport when it expires - you won't need to replace it.

redexpat · 14/06/2016 11:36

Because my residence permit in another EU country is given on the basis that I am from an EU country. I'm going to apply for dual citizenship before the referendum. Just in case.

redexpat · 14/06/2016 11:37

I would however like to vote out of European football and the Eurovision Song Contest. Grin

imwithspud · 14/06/2016 11:46

NRTFT but my most selfish (and petty) reason for wanting to remain is to piss off all the Britain First Little England types who think that leaving the EU will solve all our problems, especially in relation to immigration. The mouth frothing will make for great entertainment.

flippinada · 14/06/2016 12:16

Yes I know Tatty, it's a joke.

unexpsoc · 14/06/2016 12:21

We don't need to vote out of European football. Our hooligans are going to kindly remove that choice for us.

Flossiesmummy · 14/06/2016 12:28

The most selfish reason I have is probably to be the 'winner' against my DH GrinHmm

AnneEtAramis · 14/06/2016 12:32

I am simply emotionally attached to the idea of Europe. I do have other more rational reasons but that is my selfish reason.

MangosteenSoda · 14/06/2016 12:40

Selfishly, I have thought about an out vote so we can move back to the UK in the short to medium term and buy a bargain house with excellent foreign exchange rates in our favour. I doubt there will be jobs for us though in the event of a Brexit.

My silliest reason for IN is that I love my maroon passport and always feel a shared sense of belonging with other maroon passport holders in the queue.

Leavetheblindsdown · 14/06/2016 12:45

Huge adverse effect on my job - may no longer be viable.
House am trying to buy will probably drop in value as soon as I've bought it. Dare I try to negotiate down after the Brexit result? Doubt that would work.
Will no longer be able to send the dcs to cheap universities in the EU (or anywhere).
Goodbye to their ambitions of working on the continent, or even going on a year abroad (Erasmus).
The for me huge psychological hit of feeling trapped on a small island with a load of right-wing jingoists, compounded by losing Scotland.
We will never get rid of the Tory party again, and it will be led by self-serving Boris.
I'm in hell already.
