Help! My compost is like SOUP!

It's very nearly entirely broken down, into a very brown soup.

What's going on here?

It's in one of those Lakeland kitchen composter things.

Do you not have a compost bin/pile outside to transfer your kitchen scraps into?

Confused....where is the compost bin?

SIf it was outside, I would say you need more dry stuff, paper, egg boxes, straw, veggie pet bedding.

Far too much liquid! From where?

Have you been pouring heaps of water into it??? Or wine??

I would add lots of veg scraps and egg boxes

I recently tipped a whole bag of compost into my HUGE compost pile because there was far too much hay in there and it was starting to turn to slime - seems to have done the trick

You can bottle that liquid for plant food (like baby bio)

The bin's in the kitchen. The bigger one belongs to the landlord and is full of wasps' nests.

No wine - we don't drink.

Plenty of fluff from the dryer (bad weather up here) and off the brushes.

Egg box..and drain off the fluid as paisley says.

Put shredded newspaper in too.

Shredded newspaper would also be good.

Does the bin not have a tap for draining off the liquid?

is it just a kitchen ccaddy to contaon all your veg cuttings until you take them to the proper compost bin?

You can prob use the liquid but it won't turn into proper compost without the right conditions.

We don't have a compost bin outside.

There's one here, but it go full of wasps nests last year and we had to call an exterminator out.

This is a rented house.

Pruners, we don't buy it in, DH will bring it home if he gets it at work for free - already opened stuff usually, but he never knows when it'll be there.

I'll try egg boxes. We had tons of them, because the council doesn't take them in our recycling, but I gave them to DD2's nursery.

I think I've got one around, though.

you could just use shredded paper if you have a shredder. You need to get a 50/50 mix of carbon (cardboard/newspaper) and Nitrogen (food waste) otherwise you will just get slime.
