Natural deodrant

I currently use either no deodrant or a lush scented bar thingy, have been fine until a few days ago as it has got hot, I had a bath before I went to bed last night and I am already not too fragrant this morning.
So I think I am going to have to give in and use deodrant but which one is any good?

I was using pit rock very happily all through the winter, but an embarrassing wet patch under the arms at work incident has sent me back to Lady Mitchum roll-on. Have decided will stick with that for the summer until the jumpers come back out of the wardrobe!

I like the Tom's of Maine ones you can get in health food shops. One of them has a fab flowery smell.

Which Lush one did you use? I work for them (and try everything) and generally the better ones are Aromarant/Aromaco. The powdery bars and aromacreme aren't as good if that's what you have tried.

Me & DP have given up deoderant as we found washing everyday with Imperial Leather soap is good enough - it's got quite a strong smell so lasts all day & night. I find I sweat more with deoderant as it makes me sticky under the arms. Soap & fluffy towel to dry seams to do the trick.
And yes, squirt of perfume, just incase!

terramum · 16/06/2008 17:57

How long have you been not using deodorant? I stopped using it a couple of years ago & it did take a month or two for my body to calm down & stop sweating/smelling so much....almost gave up...the only thing that stopped me buying anything was the fact that I was broke .

Now I really don't notice it at all - if I don't have a shower in the morning then a quick wash under the arms with a flannel soaked in soapy water works just fine.

I splash under my arms in the morning, cycle to work and shower, cycle home and shower.

I've stopped using deodorant. Don't smell, don't feel uncomfortable.

Having said that, I still use it if I'm going into town for a meeting and won't be showering.

I use DeoKrystal from thre Green People. The crystals are in a small pump thing - you just keep topping it up with water to dissolve the crystals. V Good, although, because it is water-based, your pits feel wet when applied.

I use a PitRok, works great for me, No scent, no hassle, just run it under the tap. I love not smelling of nivea/sure/whatever anymore!

Weleda - sage or lemon - is very good, have never had a problem with it. Rose is a bit too powerful for me, though, brings back memories of overuse of Body Shop rose oil when I was 13.

Weleda is a deoderant though - won't stop you perspiring, just stop you minging.

hoxtonchick · 21/06/2008 16:10

hello obm. how you? is your email working yet?

am really liking this rose one so far, though it doesn't smell that rose-like now. ooooh, what was the bodyshop scent we were all obsessed with, some overpowering fake sweet berry one.

onebatmother · 21/06/2008 16:18

yes email working fine now, but am in trying-to-sell-house hell. How is yours going?

Ooh I so know that berry one.. damn.

bran · 21/06/2008 16:19

I tried anti-perspirant by Thursday Plantation and it worked quite well except on very hot and humid days, but I didn't like the fragrance very much. They do a do a deodorant too.

I'm currently using Vaseline anti-perspirant but I'm not that keen on it. I wish Original Source would make their anti-perspirant again, it was wonderful and it never gave me a painful rash.

(My teenage Bodyshop scent was White Musk, can't stand the smell of it now.)

JackieNo · 21/06/2008 16:21

Dewberry?

onebatmother · 21/06/2008 16:23

yees! Well done jackieNo.

And what about that pearly nailpolish colour, clear but with different coloured shimmers in it. God. Can't even remember who it was by but possibly Mary Quant.

hoxtonchick · 21/06/2008 16:26

yes jackie . god, vile, so synthetic. weleda a great deal better (and about 50x the price....).

back on deoderants briefly, dr haushcka do a nice one.

will email you pronto obm .

MarmadukeScarlet · 21/06/2008 16:54

I tried Toms of Maine and one other recently, used each one for a week before realising neither worked for me.

Still in my cupboard, barely used, as I keep thinking one of my more tree hugging friends wouldn't be offended if I offered them to her - but somehow I cannot pluck up the courage to ask but cannot bear to throw them out as so expensive! Ho hum.
