I must be showing off how naive my green credentials are.

I like sandalwood soap . DS3's lovely LSA always smells of sandalwood .

You can get proper Indian sandalwood soap in Fresh & Wild.

Thinking about it I do have quite a lot of bars of White Co soap in my underwear drawer, as I like their body lotion but it always comes in a gift box with soap

ranting · 21/05/2008 11:52

I love the Roger et Gallet Vetiver soap, I have one in my bathroom at the moment, ackshewly.

Shoshe · 21/05/2008 11:53

I love soap, (I even have it in all my clothes drawers, and I am a CM, so advertise my delight in it to all my parents so they alwasy know what to buy me for Christmas

DH is at Country Show grounds most weekends, and is always sent with strict instructions to go into the craft tents and find me a new handmade soap. (not that he always rememebrs unless I ring him }

I've got a big bar of Guerlain soap in my knicker drawer that is far too scented to use on skin IMO. We mnrs, ever the practical, eh?

Enid · 21/05/2008 11:58

ok not solid, but I have just washed my hands with this and it smells soooooooooo nice

Othersideofthechannel · 21/05/2008 12:02

Yes, because it is recommended for my skin by dermatologist.
I had already switched back to bars to cut down on packaging but now only buy certain kinds 'super-fatted' as in chocolateteapot's post.

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 21/05/2008 12:07

Yes, am also obsessed with soap (especially, but not restricted to, olive soap from French supermarkets)

kiskideesameanoldmother · 21/05/2008 12:10

I went back to soap recently and just finished 4 bars of olive oil soap i bought in Cyprus.

I have a huge bar of Savon de Marseilles to cut up into about 4 bars as well as some rose and lavender ones to use up.

Reading the contents of a bottle of gel, throwing away all that plastic and the expense of it has driven me back to soap.

Must say I hate soap scum on the bath and have put off going back to soap because we live in a hard water area.

If you read the label of your current washing up detergent and the label of your current shower gel, you should see that the main ingredients are the same.

MrsBadger · 21/05/2008 12:13

well yes
they're both for dissolving grease

if you read the ingredients on the back of green household laundry soap and regular bar soap they're pretty similar too

kiskideesameanoldmother · 21/05/2008 12:16

have never used laundry soap though so i don't know if such a thing really exists.

household soap

Enid · 21/05/2008 12:19

I use 'black soap' to dissove grease marks on clothes

all soap is basically the same whether it is for clothes or skin

kiskideesameanoldmother · 21/05/2008 12:22

i have used dish washing liquid to wash my hair. We were at sea and couldn't afford fresh water to wash our hair. Soap does not lather in salt water.

I make my own soap but am partial to a bar of pears and soe of the body shop ones too.

My dad used to always buy a green indian sandalwood soap when we were little which I hated!

BroccoliSpears · 21/05/2008 12:24

Shower gel never quite washes off properly and I feel slimy. And it smells.

An enormous white bar of almond soap - lovely.

DP uses a revolting orange coal tar soap that gunges everything. Ugh. Dd thinks "Daddy's soap is THE BEST" and sneakily uses it instead of the organic, mild, goats' milk soap I buy for her.

Enid · 21/05/2008 12:24

voila in Enid's laundry room

BroccoliSpears · 21/05/2008 12:24

Top tip - keep your soap on your upturned nail brush. Drains and dries it beautifully.

Enid · 21/05/2008 12:25

lovin that tip

kiskideesameanoldmother · 21/05/2008 12:26

i now store my soap bar on a piece of fleece which had another life as a reusable nappy liner at the end of hte bath. The fleece allows it to dry off and it doesn't leave a gungy mess on the bath.

I use nice Lush soap - or olive oil soap brought back from holiday in Greece.

Never have a porblem with it going cruddy as use a self draining metal soap tray.

Only use shower gel on holiday - easier than bringing back a dampy bar of soap.

Squack · 21/05/2008 12:34

I had no idea that people didn't use soap?!?!

Shower gels just seemed to me to be for the uber-poncy.

Botbot · 21/05/2008 12:35

I use soap (green) in the bath (not green) and shower gel (not green) in the shower (green).

I'm crap at this green thing, aren't I?

WilyWombat · 21/05/2008 12:38

Sorry im a gel fan...dont like the thought of the rest of the family running my soap over their bits and leaving pubes in it
