Why does ecover washing liquid make the soap compartment all balck and mankey?

Because it isn't full of really nasty organism killing chemicals?

pelvicflawed · 09/05/2008 14:45

Never got on with the liquid - kept getting smelly washing (just smelled really yuck - a bit like mould!). Changed to Ecover powder and never had the problem and works really well. Its as though something dosen't quite rinse out with the liquid.

my machine much improved since another MNer suggested leaving dispenser drawer open to air when machine not in use.

I have switched to powder for nappies as liquid made them smell but use liquid for all other stuff.

so does persil

Oh thanks - was using the liquid as I can get refilled in the shop round the corner...can you get powder refils?

I found the powder left powdery marks on my clothes but the liquid didn't...

Rhian82 · 28/06/2008 11:50

We use the liquid and yes, it does make clothes smell funny sometimes (seems better if you use the fabric conditioner). We had the seal replaced (under warranty) a couple of years ago as it had gone really black and manky, and the guy who came round said it was just soap that hadn't dissolved properly - part of the problem was that nothing got washed at higher than 40. He sold us some cleaning powder stuff that we use every month at 95, helps with the mankiness but not the clothes smell!

SqueakyPop · 28/06/2008 11:53

because it is badly formulated

mumdebump · 29/06/2008 23:20

Because all non-bios liquids do. They aren't full of nasty chemicals that kill everything they come into contact with.

TooTicky · 29/06/2008 23:25

I use Clearspring liquid which is eco friendly, doesn't dry my skin like Ecover used to, and actually has a better animal testing policy

mumdebump · 29/06/2008 23:49

Where do you get that from TooTicky?

TooTicky · 30/06/2008 13:00

I buy it from a shop called Who Cares in Melksham but you can also get it here

Also, some Oxfam shops have started doing Bio-D products which, although not as good as Clearspring imo, are better than Ecover.
