What would it take to vote for the Green Party? (If you don’t already!!)

I’m just learning about the Green Party and forming my own view of it. I can see some quite big changes they would need to capture my vote but I wondered what other people thought? Would your children encourage you to vote green and if they did would you follow their encouragement?

OP posts:

I don’t have kids. But I won’t even consider voting for a party unless I know they’re going to protect women’s sex-based rights.

borntobequiet · 30/09/2020 18:58

For them to understand human biology.

HermioneWeasley · 30/09/2020 18:59

They would have to protect women’s sex based rights, stop calling us “non men” and show they’ve taken on board the recommendations from their Challenor investigation

Camdenish · 30/09/2020 19:00

It’s very difficult to take them seriously as they don’t seem to like women very much.

Hotcuppatea · 30/09/2020 19:03

For them to know the difference between men and women and to acknowledge why it matters.

EasilyDeleted · 30/09/2020 19:03

For them to commit to upholding the sex-based rights of women.

WhippedCreamInARoll · 30/09/2020 19:09

They'd need to get off the crazy train and issue a massive apology to women.

TeddyIsaHe · 30/09/2020 19:11

For them to understand what a woman is (hint: not non-men)

Krieger · 30/09/2020 19:12

A frontal lobotomy

LolaSmiles · 30/09/2020 19:13

They need to stop throwing women under the bus.

unmarkedbythat · 30/09/2020 19:14

PR as our voting system. Would vote for them no question then.

ThousandsAreSailing · 30/09/2020 19:15

They would have to understand what a woman is and they would have to apologise for the Challenor fiasco and their handling of it. They would need to show that they now understand safeguarding

ChaChaCha2012 · 30/09/2020 19:15

Eugh. Sorry OP your thread has been taken over by people who are against trans people having rights.

What would it take for me to vote Green? Proportional representation. Without that it would be a wasted vote. With PR I'd seriously consider it.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 30/09/2020 19:19

They need to take safeguarding seriously. Also ditch the anti scientific gender woo and the casual misogyny.

UntamedWisteria · 30/09/2020 19:21

What a pity this thread has been hijacked by the anti-trans people, or whatever they are.

Things to consider about a Green vote - assuming you care about tackling climate change:

It's not a wasted vote. Even if you are in a safe Tory or Labour seat, the more votes the Greens get the more funding they get to help promote their policies.

The more votes the Greens get the more notice mainstream parties need to take of their policies. It's arguable that we wouldn't have had Brexit had it not been for UKIP - and the Greens have always had more seats than they ever got.

There are some constituencies where the Greens are second. A vote for them is valuable.

And also really worth voting green in local elections, where they can often hold the balance of power, and in European elections because of PR.

Finally, Caroline Lucas is one of the best MPs this country has - we need more like her. If she can get elected it proves it is possible.

markzuckerbergsgreytshirt · 30/09/2020 19:21

There's nothing they could do to make me vote for them. Bunch of hypocrites.

ThousandsAreSailing · 30/09/2020 19:22

ChaChaCha2012
So referring to woman as non-men is trans rightsHmm

ThousandsAreSailing · 30/09/2020 19:22

And the Challenor fiasco, was that trans rights?

ANoTail · 30/09/2020 19:22

@ChaChaCha2012

Eugh. Sorry OP your thread has been taken over by people who are against trans people having rights.

What rights are trans people lacking which the rest of us have?
MeanMrMustardSeed · 30/09/2020 19:23

No anti-trans on here so far. Just pro-women.
For me, it would be knowing what a woman is and protecting their rights.

Mollscroll · 30/09/2020 19:23

David Challenor is an example of standing up for trans rights ? Crikey. The problem is even bigger than I thought.

ThousandsAreSailing · 30/09/2020 19:24

Do the greens ever mention the environment these days?
It's the party that veered sharply from its remit.

I'd vote for them in a heartbeat if

They would protect women’s sex based rights, stop calling us “non men” and show they’ve taken on board the recommendations from their Challenor investigation

Graffitiqueen · 30/09/2020 19:26

If they ditched all the gender woo woo anti science nonsense I'd consider it.
