For kids lunch boxes.

I have got into a bit of a lazy rut with probably far too much foil and sandwich bags. I do use plastic sistema pot things or random plastic tubs but find the rubber seals go a bit manky and mouldy.

So what's the best minimal waste lunch box solution.

Should I even have the usual.plastic insulated lunch bag is that ok or terrible?

I can't say I'm that adventurous but wraps can be a change from sandwiches. Sometimes I do home made hummus and crudités and sausages.

I use a Sistema sandwich box and a sistema tub for pudding type stuff hat I've had for about 8 years and used it almost daily, no mould if washed daily. That's lot of foil not used!

Also had my lunch bag about 6 years. I suppose it will wear out eventually, but so far much better than using plastic bags.

We do wash the tubs daily but we have had them a long time and the rubber seal does seem to keep going a bit manky. I also find that because we have a bread maker the tubs designed to hold sandwiches dont fit the size and shape of the sandwich.

Have just invested in a new lunch bag for dd in the hope that as its not one of the flat ones maybe the tubs will fit in better....

You can get those wrap things, like reusable going film. Can't remember what theyre called but I'll see if I can find a link.

We got those Yumbox bento boxes. They are quite expensive but have lots of compartments for different things and stuff like hummus or yoghurt won't leak. We have the same problem with bread machine bread being the wrong size and shape for lunch boxes though.

I use washable sandwich wrappers which fold out to be a 'plate'. Chuck them in the washing machine. Had them almost 10 years.

Can I ask advice on sizing with the bags.

A.sandwich for dd consists of one slice of bread maker sized bread . Usually with tuna or chicken. Will that fit ok? Do the sandwiches fall apart in the bags.

The wrappers I use wrap tightly around whatever is in them holding it together.

Yes 10 years! Think of all the single use material I've avoided using. We take them on holiday too, use them for school, whenever we go on a day trip.

They get used once or twice a week. One or two are beginning to show signs of wear and tear but I'll keep using them as long as I can.

We just use old take-away food containers for DC school pack ups.
For my food I use things like bread bags (bags I bought the bread in).

Beeswax wraps! The kids (4 and 10) understood straight away that they weren't to be chucked which I initially thought would be the issue. Wraps and sticks to itself likw clingfilm. I haven't bought a roll of clingfilm since I started using them, they're great! Can also be used to cover bowls and dishes going in the fridge. Wash with tepid soapy water and then I peg them up on a bulldog clip near the sink.

Dh and I use the sistema sandwich box for ours, but as your homemade bread doesn't fit how about one of these wraps?

It's a small business owned by a lady in Scotland and the wraps are actually made by prisoners (learning new skills and paid a wage). I don't have one yet, but I keep meaning to buy one!
