Solid shampoo and conditioner recommendations please!

Am looking for solid shampoo and conditioner recommendations please. Would ideally like to be palm oil and sls free and not lush as don't really get on with a lot of their products.
Have been looking at the lamazuna but they don't seem to do a conditioner and also would just like some opinions of those who have tried it. Thanks in advance!

I use ethique and honestly it's so good, I buy it from Holland and barrett and one bar lasts me about 7/8 months. They don't lather as quickly as lush but I think that's why they last so long. Plus I have dry hair and it's works wonders.... And finally its palm oil and sls free!

Another vote for Ethique! I've used so many different brands but found Ethique in NZ (available from Holland and Barett in the UK now) and it's great, even the solid conditioner actually works. I like kiwiheli and the guardian, makes my hair fresh and soft. Travelled round the world with them and had no issues in any water, but you do have to keep the bars dry

I have used a few, I find EarthBits earthbits.com/products/2in1-solid-shampoo-plastic-free-shampoo-and-conditioner-2-in-1 works very well for me. I buy their vinegar rinse too but I don't need to use it that often, and I also keep a jar of coconut oil in the shower and use a little of that most times because it suits my hair.

I've been using Faith in Nature shampoo bars for a couple of months on my greasy hair, and I live in a hard water area. Would recommend them; leaves my hair squeaky clean - I've just ordered some more, and their conditioner as well.
All their products are vegan, and they do a refill service as well; there's a long list of places which provide this. I'm working my way through one of their 5L body-washes, it's in every dispenser in my house.

For those of you saying that the shampoo bars leave your hair 'waxy', those will actually be cold process soap bars. Try using a syndet shampoo bar instead, these are basically solid shampoo without the water. The main ingredients should be SCI or SCS, rather than sodium cocoate (coconut oil), or other ...-ates. You may find you get on better with an SCI bar than an SCS bar, that will depend on your particular hair type.

The soap bars don't have the right pH for your hair, hence the need for an AVC rinse, and them not working properly in hard water areas.

theneverendinglaundry · 10/02/2021 19:50

Exactly right @throwa I always check the ingredients and won't buy anything soap based as it leaves a horrible residue on hair and skin. I'm in a really hard water area.

So far I've tried Ethique and Lush so far and had great results with both.

I find that after 3-4 times of using solid shampoo/ conditioner in a row my scalp starts to get a bit itchy ( These are ph balanced products so shouldn't need a separate rinse) so I tend to alternate liquid and bars. It works really well for me.

I know this thread has been running for a while but like many of you I have struggled with finding a shampoo bar which works well. Lush products do the job but I have issues with the company and would rather not buy from them.

DH got a flyer from a company called Gruum - with those two wee dots over the first U - which is doing very similar products. They are just the same as the Lush bars, they lather in the same way and don't leave the greasy feeling you get with other bars. Lots of bars trade heavily on the "we don't contain sodium laureth sulphate SLS" but that's what gives the lather... whatever Gruum uses as an alternative is very good.

Anyway. Can recommend gruum bars. Cheaper than Lush too and they are always running promos, currently it's a free bar and all you pay is the postage of £3.95. If you Google you'll probably find other offers too. I haven't tried their other products but the shampoo is excellent!

Kin Kind - absolutely amazing and I've tried them all!!! The vast majority make your hair feel like it's been washed with glue.

I couldn't get on with gruum bars at all, made my hair feel greasy.

I use soul &soap ones and they leave my hair feeling clean, I can go an extra day between washes and I don't need to use conditioner any more

Blue Lemon shampoo bars. Available mail order.

Wanderlust20 · 30/06/2021 03:38

Eco Warrior bars for me! There's a really moisturising one for coloured hair, lathers up great!

SamprasTheRabbit · 14/08/2021 15:35

Came on looking for recommendations after buying a Friendly one and not reading the packaging (v v hard water area).
For those of you with greasy hair, there's a great one via My Little Eco Shop online, and they'll send it in a metal tin or without packaging if you want.
Might try an Ethique one though as it's a pain ordering online.

AnCailleachOiche · 08/11/2021 12:44

I use Ethique but if I'm feeling a bit flash I've been known to make my own.
Pease don't use a soap bar. You need a proper shampoo bar or your hair will be awful ( coarse and greasy) your hair will not need a 'transition period' with a proper shampoo bar. That is simply a marketing con.

littlegingerone · 09/05/2022 13:04

Just in case anyone still looking at this - I have only tried a couple as a recent change and they have been the herbal essences one and John Frieda. Both have been really good but I can highly reccommend the herbal essences coconut one. it is at least as good as liquid shampoo and has lasted at least as long as a bottle would have. It lathers easily and leaves my hair feeling clean and soft. It's a great price and easily available in Boots etc. It is also cruelty free which I'm not sure the John Frieda one is. Hope that's a helpful up to date reccommendation!

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 09/05/2022 13:16

I use Dr Bronner Castile bar soap. Seems to do the job. I'm a dirty smelly hippy though so my standards are lowGrin

I've heard shampoo bars don't work if you have hard water. Interested to see if anyone has found one that does

Beauty kubes and ethique should work. Anything with SIS rather than sodium lauryl sulphate. I tried loads but I have been using those ones for ages with no problems.

Cakeonthefloor · 14/05/2022 09:45

Faith in Nature are good too. Cheaper and some Sainsburys sell them.
