I noticed on another thread someone said that putting bleach down the toilet was bad for the enviroment.

limescale remover which is probably as bad but the water is dead 'ard round here.

I use tea tree oil - i shake a few drops in the pan in the morning and swish about with the brush. Bicarb gets rid of all stains, rings, marks etc. Vinegar (white) is also a great deoderiser.

Ecover and BioD also make special toilet cleaning products if you want to spend money on a product rather than using home found cleaners. I think they have quite a good press - i do use the ecover washingup liquid and i think its rather great.

Just thought I'd let you know - I went shopiing this morning and got some Ecover rather than bleach (having also read the other thread).

I want to start using fewer chemicals in housework. Heaven only knows what's in Cillit Bang, for example. Can anyone suggest a couple of basic good things to buy? I went to Wilkinsons and there were just rows and rows of products and I found it very difficult to find anything that looked kinder to the environment.

rosylea - this may be a useful place to start...

womens environmental network - (its a pdf file). I found lots and lots of tips from the 'oldstyle' threads at Martin the MoneySavers site - i hardly spend a bean on cleaning products now and those that i do use/make are far more natural and (i hope) better for the planet.

Excellent advice and lots of good alternative products. Ethical food too and a children's play area.
Please go, it is my favourite shop and they need all the support they can get
