Compost bin?

Is it worth getting a compost bin?

We don't have a garden at all.

not really as you'd have a) nowhere to put the bin and b) nowhere to put the finished compost.

I do have a tiny patch of ground where the bin could go, but also, do they attract flies etc in the summer?

I've seen this and it would fit where I want it to go.

Is it good value for money

Do you have plants in tubs and pots? If so it would be worth getting a small one but not otherwise, as Furball said!

You can stand them on concrete as long as there are worms inside to do the composting. Ours doesn't seem to attract flies.

Or you could get one of those worm farm things from wiggly wigglers - they cost more but they're smaller and neater I think.

Some councils give those away, and the little bins for storing kitchen waste until you have a load - have you asked yours?

They do unless you are quite careful. I had this problem but I managed to solve it by adding more garden waste and cardboard to the bin - it's too much unmixed kitchen waste that makes the flies apparently. I can't see the point though unless you have a garden to use it on or someone you could pass it on to.

Try your local council for a compost bin - many of them are doing decent offers.
Mine was around £15 with free delivery.

I wanted to get some water butts in the summer but they were expensive so I decided to wait until autumn.
I checked your link but it's for Yorkshire Water only - I'll have to see what Severn Trent can offer.
