Myself and my husband are separated but living together.....
it is his 40th birthday coming up next month.
Do I need to celebrate it? Is it the right thing to do with our teenage kids?
We will get on fairly well, but I don't want to give mixed messages

Maybe ask him what his plans are. Not really your responsibility. If he has none maybe suggest he goes for a meal or activity day with your teenagers.
He could still do this if he’s celebrating with friends. You don’t need to be involved or feel guilty.
