What is the correct response to a 5 year old who asks why she doesn't have a daddy?
The biological father threw DM out when she was 5 months pregnant. He has never been in touch and is not on the birth certificate (no maintenance ever applied for)

At that age I’d say “some families have one parent others have 2 or more.you have lots of love and the best family”
If they ask specifically again explain that he wasn’t ready to be a parent but I was and I have enough love to be your best parent ever.

That is perfect Danikm151 thanks.

@Crunched it’s pretty much what my mom said to me.
When I got older I learnt that he was a waste of space so I was better off without him.
I’ve never met him and it doesn’t bother me because my mom is the best 🙂

@Danikm151 That's lovely to hear. I'm so glad you appreciate your single parent Mum and value her. People are so quick to say that children need two parents but some people just should not be parents and the children will always be better off without them.

I recently overheard my child and friends (teens of both sexes) discussing fathers, they all said their fathers were a waste of space/time but their mums were the best and amazing. I wish I could have told all the mums that their teens thought they were doing a great job.

@DominoBlue there are some great fathers out there but then there are some terrible ones and they shouldn’t be parents at all.

Those teens probably went home and hugged their mothers 😄
