Given that she is 68, I would think she would have used an egg from a donor or the surrogate was the mother.

It's just adopting your grandchild after your child died. The ethical issue should be the surrogacy, and also knowingly creating a person who will likely be orphaned by their teens.

As I understand it, it is her son’s sperm with a surrogate egg and womb. I didn’ read that she donated the egg. So not incest, no.

All sorts of weird in my mind to have created your dead’s son’s child, and a bit sad to be honest. I feel very sorry for the child.

Morally wrong though. How can he consent to bringing a child into the world when he is dead? And who will the child have when the grandma dies (which is going to be an issue sooner rather than later with her age)

No, not incest, though plenty to debate nonetheless.

She has used a surrogate (contentious issue) to create a child using a donor egg (less contentious issue) and the previously frozen sperm of her deceased son (very contentious issue).

She has created her own grandchild (holy moly what the actual fuck contentious issue) who she plans to raise herself (contentious issue).

Anyone with frozen eggs, frozen sperm, or frozen embryos, be very sure that you have clear enforceable legal instructions for what happens upon your death - else your parents might be merrily creating grandchildren for themselves long after you've gone!

No but it is unethical. The father is dead before conception and didn't sign up to this, eg maybe I could see a married man saying his wife could use his sperm after he dies from a cancer but not a mum using her sons sperm. And the egg donor should be contactable at 18?

Also in UK surrogate would also be contactable at 18 in addition to egg donor if new proposals agreed.

Lot's of ethical issues to debate regarding using the sperm of a dead person etc nothin at all to do with incest, infact completely baffled how you arrived at this conclusion.

It sounds grim and I don't agree with it at all. But it isn't incest. I do not think sperms or eggs should be used after a person's death.

This would be prohibited in England. Reproductive material is destroyed after the death of the ‘owner’, unless a legal spouse has requested it and is going to use it the self. I think there may be a time limit as well.

There have been cases in the news about it where girlfriends/wives fight (sometimes successfully) to use the dead man's sperm eg if they had started IVF before the unexpected death, or if the man had signed his consent (which still doesn't legally mean anything in the UK I think)

Of course it isn't incest, it's just Ana's grandchild . Her son's semen fertilised an unrelated womans egg in another womans womb.

The surrogate and the egg donor are unrelated to Ana; just like the birth mother of my grandchildren is unrelated to me.
