Helping homeless

There is a young girl homeless living close to us. She is dirty and I think she is sleeping rough. I don't know how old she is, it could be 18 ir younger. She has been begging for money telling people she needs to buy food, but I saw her smoking, so she might have some money? I gave her £10 a couple of days ago but I am not sure whether that will help her anything. Now she tries to catch my eye and ask for more when she sees me. I don't want to call the police, are there any organisations that could help her?

Depends where you are, Action for Children might be able to find her a place to stay if she is under 24 I think, otherwise look of other homelessness charities in your area. Shelter tends to operate in a number of places too.
