Safety cameras

Has anyone bought or could recommend blink or ring cameras for safety and security? We have Blink for our own home but wonder what others use.

I don’t know the practicalities of fitting because BIL did it. We can view through an App called Eufy.

We first had a camera fixed along hall and in kitchen in order to see any visitors. Not long after we had a camera in the lounge (to see how she was if she had not answered the phone).

Best thing we did. We live a long distance from her home. We were able to get help for her several times when she had a fall between carer visits. She never got used to pressing the alarm on her wrist.

We could see that she was not safe at home even with 4 daily carer visits. Sad but she now has 24 hour supervision.

Thanks. We are early days into the dementia diagnosis ( Vascular and Alzheimer’s) and she is going downhill in plateaus.
she is living by herself and is 81. We live about 10 mins away but at. I still work but am doing supply teaching this year as I can’t really be full time if she deteriorates.

Keep asking questions. For must of us there is a sharp learning curve. It is good to be able to share what I have learned from others.

For about 6 months the cameras were a game changer in the we could reassure ourselves that Mum was fine (and for me it was a 3 hour flight to get there). After that the cameras just highlighted that home was not a safe setting. She had to move into residential care. That was sad. If we could have trusted her to stay in her chair until the carers come, she could have stayed at home. She wouldn’t. Now she is in the home she does stay in her chair - so she is basically in the same situation. I’m just venting, I do know that her ability to make decisions has been affected.

We use the Amazon Eufy cameras. They are very cheap and give great picture quality. We’ve got quite a few dotted about my Mums house. She is still mobile and independent but it’s still useful for double checking if she has locked the doors, seeing who is visiting or seeing when parcels are left. We also use them if she gets stuck with something and she wants to ask me for help. There is a little delay in the sound but it’s ok.
You don’t need any subscription as the recordings go on memory cards. The app is easy to use. My mum has it on her iPad too so she can easily check things herself. I don’t think my Mum would fall for a doorstep scammer but I imagine the fact anyone calling on my Mum can see they are getting filmed is a good thing.
They are extremely easy to set up. The price goes up and down so it’s a good idea to look at the price history.

She cannot remember the incident. So a camera would have been v useful in that situation. I don’t think it will be long for carers but we are still waiting g for an OT assessment that was put in motion in June. Am going to have to ring again.

The app isn’t part of the camera purchase for the Eufy cameras. You can choose to pay a subscription so that your recordings are held in the cloud for 30 days but otherwise the subscription doesn’t add much. I’ve never felt the need to pay the subscription.

I have blink ones for my dad. They are ok but limited recording for 30 seconds only so not easy to follow him round the house and I lose him sometimes. My husband had Google home for his dad which were better. Even caught a delivery driver stealing a knife. (Cost him his job and he was prosecuted with the evidence we had)
