Orthopaedic/adjustable bed

Elderly father with arthritis in both hips - can’t lie flat at all without significant pain.
Thinking about an adjustable bed where either or both ends can be adjusted.
Any experience of this please? They are quite pricey so would like to gather as much information as possible.
Thanks.

Ask for referral for home OT assessment they may provide

The gold standard is a hospital bed. Does he have any professional input eg OT, that could recommend this? Otherwise Benson for Beds and Dreams both do reasonably priced versions. I don't 'need' an adjustable bed but love my dreams one

Thanks. No professional input but we haven’t requested any to date.
I’m not sure how long a referral would take but will make some enquiries.
I did see the GP with him this week and they didn’t offer anything.

You have to ask ime to be referred. Doesn't take long when I've dealt with them they're one of the quicker services.

You really must get a Soc svs and OT referral. It’s not just a question of it being provided foc but getting the right thing. You could be wasting your money

This is very true as they can provide suitable mattresses for the bed depending on the condition.

My wife was provided with a hospital bed, it was reasonably comfortable.
We bought an adjustamatic bad in January and it was very expensive but is easier to adjust and a lot more comfortable

Thanks for these replies. I’m disappointed the GP didn’t mention an OT input when I mentioned we were considering buying a bed.
I will follow up with them.

DM was recommended a hospital bed by the district nurse and it arrived within a week.

Bypass the GP and contact adult social services
