Changing mobile phone contract into different name

Father in law’s phone contract is in mother in law’s name. She had him as a 2nd user.

She has advanced dementia and has been n residential home for 3 years now but EE won’t change the name on the contract. He has LPOA & they cancelled her phone number but they won’t change the name on the account. He wants to keep his number.

our options are for me to phone & pretend to be her (illegal) or I’m working needing if he can use the LPOA to force them to give him the PAC code then just start again with a different provider.

EE were tricky for us too - both for DC on our account and to sort DF with LPA. In the end my whole family left. I think a pay monthly SIM like Gif Gaf is preferable to EE.

You can request a PAC code by text - from Money Saving Expert:

To transfer your mobile number, you'll need to request a Porting Authorisation Code (PAC) from your current network. You can request this by texting your current network. Simply text 'PAC' for free to 65075 and you'll be sent your 'porting authorisation code' (PAC) immediately. To get a new number, text 'STAC' to 75075.
Once you have your PAC code, give it to your new network, and it will let your current network know you're looking to leave. The process usually takes one to three working days, although it can take longer in some cases.
If you're still in contract, you could be charged early termination fees for leaving - check how much you'd be charged by sending a text with the word 'INFO' to 85075.
