Elderly parents

Pip changes

My parents are both in receipt of pip payments.
One gets it for heart problems and the other a lung condition that is not expected to get better.
Both scored 2 to 3 points on pip descriptors.
If the pip changes are made will they take pip from my parents for not scoring 4 on one descriptor?
My DM is panicking and has got anxiety since hearing of these changes.

The changes will affect any new claim or reassessment of an existing claim from 2026-27 onwards
It will not be next week
It might only be on a reassessment

So for now they should not panic
They should speak to their MP about their concerns
If elderly might it change anyway to attendance allowance?

  • If you are over State Pension age: If you are over State Pension age and do not receive DLA, you can apply for Attendance Allowance instead.

Re-assessment can go either way too, it might be that they need more support by then and score a 4 for something. Distressing though it all is there is nothing they can do except wait.
