Alternative oxygen mask

Hi all

My dad is on hospital at the moment and he has advanced Alzheimer's. He is finding the standard NHS issue face mask for oxygen delivery really irritating as it doesn't fit very well. He keeps taking it off and of course you can't reason with him.

Would we be able to buy a better one from somewhere? Any recommendations?

The current one is the kind that goes over nose and mouth and has an elastic strap.

Thanks in advance
Xxx

My wife was in hospital and another patient had an oxygen "mask" that was tubes into her nostrils.
I think the nurses or a doctor at the hospital will be able to give the best advice and provide an alternative desgn of mask.

the different options for giving oxygen work in slightly different ways and usually the decision re which to use is based on the clinical indication for the oxygen. Most hospitals will also only have a limited number of brands of each option (usually the cheapest and usually purchased without any involvement from clinicians!). Nasal specs, suggested by PP, may be an option so it's worth asking, but equally may not be appropriate or any better tolerated by someone prone to confusion/forgetting (and also come with a bit of a risk of getting them tightly wrapped around your neck). The advantage of a facemask is that you can dial up higher flows and just having it 'wafting' oxygen if someone pulls it down/off but you can't do the same with standard nasal specs. It's tricky for patients with severe dementia and there often aren't any great options.
