Morning - not sure this is the right place but figure if I'm going through this with mine, someone else may have too. My dad does not have and refuses to get the internet. The main reason seems to be safety (he's very scared of scammers and hackers) but I think it's more that he dug his heels in years ago and now will not budge.
He needs a new TV..He's getting to a point where I need to have a chat about his driving and if he ends up staying in more, the TV will be his only company. Obviously if I get him one he can't access lots of the channels/apps, but (apologies, clearly got my tech knowledge from him) is there anything I can do that doesn't need Sky etc to give him more access?
Thank you.

We've recently had a freesat tv but we do already have a sky box.

If he's that scared of technology I'm not sure he'd be willing to start using the catch-up apps anyway?

I don't know if this list is of any use? Number 3 seems to have built in satellite.

Thank you, that's very helpful, I'll look into it. I think he'd like the range of channels, he just refuses to get a proper internet connection. One of his current concerns is about the switch to internet only phone providers and he doesn't want to lose his analogue phone line. I'm trying not to nag but it's been a frustrating discussion for quite some time!

Frustrating isn't it but I think that you may have to just accept his view.

That's from experience of a few old ones in the family Flowers

That’s been delayed through over optimistic views of length of time needs to be provided for by battery back-up.

Freeview only needs an aerial, and is built in to all modern TVs. It only needs broadband for catchup and on demand, not to access the channels to watch live.

my dad is a bit of a “tech refusnik” and prefers to live as if it’s 1990..however he is partially disabled and sports mad, so telly is his grace and saviour. At his assisted living bungalows he couldn’t get Sky, but I got him BT Tv through the internet so he can get all the sports channels. He still “doesn’t use the internet” and hasn’t got a smartphone/tablet/laptop but it was the best way of getting the tv service he needs. I did everything on his behalf and he just paid for it. BT had to upgrade his cable etc as it was very poor and not fast enough speed but it was all done fairly quickly and BT were actually really good..they have also been good at fault fixing when we’ve had a couple of issues.
He’s fathomed out how to record things and play them back (which is about as far as his tech ability goes) and has access to a big range of channels.
But if you asked him, he’d say he “doesn’t use the internet”
Hey ho.
