Smart Watch?

I’m posting here because I am elderly and so is my wife. We are both 77.
I used to go out feeling happy as she would phone me if she needed anything. I was out last week and twice came home to find her distressed because she was unable to work out how to use the phone to call me. She needed my help to go to the toilet.
Would a Smart Watch work?We both have android smart phones (as well as the landline). Could she simply tell her watch “Phone John” and then speak to me?
I’ve seen smart watches on Amazon for about £25 so worth it for my peace of mind.
Another idea is to get Alexa to call me but I’m not sure how that works.

Introducing new tech now is probably not the best solution.

Was it a new phone she was having trouble with? Can you write very clear step by step instructions with pictures to guide her through it?

Alternatively most phones now have a voice assistant - what model is it and I can look up how it works?

@FusionChefGeoff She uses the landline to call me. It is a cordless and she used to look at the list of callers and use that.

I'll look up voice assist for her mobile. I am sure I'll manage to work that out and it is simpler than introducing another device.

Thanks

You could look at an Alexa device, you can set them up to call mobiles and are completely voice activated. If you know someone that can set it up they are easy to use once installed and hooked up to WiFi.

@MissRainbowBrite that would give my Alexa a purpose in her life as I seldom use her. I do occasionally ask for my weather forecast or calender details.

My father had a Doro 8030 not-very-smart phone which had one useful feature - an alarm button on the back which would call a specifiec series of numbers in turn if you pressed it. You could try something like that.
