Simple / easy CD player for elderly person?

Hi, im supporting an elderly person who lives nearby and need to get her a simple and easy to use CD player. I bought one from Amazon which is going back as i was having trouble getting it to work so friend definitely wont be able to use it. I paid £40 for it and it seemed very flimsy as well.

Just want something that feels robust, has good sound and easy buttons to press for ON/OFF.

anyone found one of these please?

These were what my mum found useful, they were originally used for young children before they were allowed tablets and actually tolerated a lot of rough handling

Thanks phallus. Hoping for some more suggestions……

What aspect is your DNeighbour struggling with OP? Is it sight?

bilbodog · 26/08/2024 14:09

@PolaroidPrincess

sight is part of it but being elderly she cant cope with too many or small buttons and is not very techy. If the cd player has too many buttons she will get confused as to what she needs to press - most seem to have radios as well and she cant tune a radio and they have buttons and holes to insert all sorts of things which she gets confused about.

i found her the local radio station on her smart TV but she cant cope with finding it herself even though i left her the channel number she needs.

For my own elderly neighbour, I put masking tape over the 'knobs and knockers' on anything she found too complicated.

It doesn't work for every gizmo, of course, but it might do the trick.

bilbodog · 30/08/2024 13:19

Good idea re the. Tape - thanks.

I just use a dvd player

PolaroidPrincess · 30/08/2024 14:41

Did you buy it in Blavk or white. 8 have done Visio. Issues and sone black items can become a bit invisible.

You can buy raised dots to put on the buttons she needs. Just an alternative to the masking tape Wink

I bought in black as i read somewhere that its easier to read white writing on black than the other way round. Friend seems to be managing very well with it so far.

That's good news Wink

Oh that’s a smart looking Roberts. Good find.

I have had some success with setting up an Alexa for my elderly parent. It’s slightly tricky when they don’t have a smart phone but I managed it and now they can just shout ‘Alexa play radio 2’.
