Dad is 84 , fit and healthy physically up to now, getting a bit forgetful.

Now in hospital with pneumonia and they've seen something on scan of heart but waiting to see if antibiotics clear infection. Anyone experience of this? He's been persuaded to stay in for a few 'assessment ' days. Nothing mentioned to him about heart.

My mum had a problem show up with her heart, but it settled after the infection was treated. The chest infection put a temporary strain on the heart.

Find out if they feel it is linked to pneumonia or a separate issue.

They’re really good at dealing with hearts nowadays. DF had a heart attack at 72 and despite ongoing atrial fibrillation is still going 30 years later. DH over 3months went from ventricle ejecting only 32% of blood volume to 48% - anything over 55% is “normal” - and that was just with tablets.

So have hope!
