My mother is in hospital.I have been told they can do an express discharge as she is EOL.
Her flat is rented at an extracare retirement village and she gets help towards the rent from the council. If she is sent to a nursing care home (for EOL support). How long will they give me to clear her rented flat ?
Does anyone know ???
I know it is a strange thing to worry about, but it is an extra stress for me at this difficult time.

Impossible to know without asking them - I'd get in touch with the manager and ask as it may depend on the situation.

When I had to clear an elderly relative out of a council flat (not assisted living just a normal flat) we only got two weeks.

In case it's helpful, I discovered a local house clearance company could support with this - my perception was they'd just chuck everything in a skip, but what they actually did was keep back anything we asked for (paperwork and photos), recycled anything that could be or took to charity shop. Anything left went to waste.

A colleague took a week off work and rented a storage container. Spent the week doing a very fast sift of contents of flat so some stuff was chucked or rehomed immediately but most other stuff went in the storage container to be sorted at a later date.

When my DM passed away, I had a week to clear her sheltered flat. The new tenant was champing at the bit and I kept being asked to hurry up. Horrendous!

I know when DM has to move on from her flat we'll have a week to sort it out. Just hoping my boss will be understanding when it happens.

We had 2 weeks to clear my MILs flat. We were able to leave in all the furniture that no one wanted as the Council have a clearance team who get rid of everything for £150.

And it's definitely not unsual to think of this. And I'm sorry that your DM is so ill Flowers
