Could anyone give me some advice please. My DM is 92 very with it. She has been sick a few times over the past two weeks and been a bit wobbly as she put it. She called the dr out today and he is sending her for a brain scan as he mentioned the possibility that she may have had a stroke. This has distressed my DM greatly. MY DM is healthy normally active out every day sees her friends. is the dr bring over cautious

I'm sorry, I know it's very distressing for you both

Mum is 85 and we think - still don't know for sure - that she's had two strokes in the last year. She had a blackout and fall both times but they were preceded by a lot of stomach issues. She had to be hospitalised though, sounds like your mum has been okay but wobbly?

What they told us was that the brain scan would show the answer. Weirdly, the first time there was clear evidence, but not the second time.

My mum is already on meds which prevent stroke but nothing is complete proof against anything.

The main thing is how your mum is feeling in herself really. Is she okay, she might need to curtail her activities a little.

She has agreed to curtail her activities a little but has told me she must go the shopping for the old lady next door!

If your mum has had a stroke recently, I'm afraid she is at increased risk of another one. If that's what's happened, it could definitely make sense for her to take medication to try and reduce that risk. I think the GP is doing the right thing.

Hi, did you find out if your mum had a stroke?
How is she doing?
My 90 old gran had a stroke earlier this week, unfortunately she was unable to talk or move so it was diagnosed pretty quickly,
