Bed recommendation?

We need to buy a single bed for my elderly father so he can sleep downstairs. Has anyone got any recommendations? We don't really need a hospital bed. We want one high enough and perhaps with option of a rail. Any advice or recommendations would be gratefully received!

It might be worth asking for an Occupational Therapist to meet your father and advise you. We bought my mum an electric bed when she was in hospital for three weeks. It was all singing/all dancing with adjustable height and back and feet. Unfortunately it was too high for her to get into bed comfortably and as a result she had to have help to get to bed every night for the next two years until she went into a home.

The OT can also provide other aides that might help you.

I would check with the OT what height the bed needs to be. You can get aids to add to the sides of normal beds so you may not need to spead out on an expensive hospital style bed but if the OT says that a hospital style bed is needed then these can sometimes be provided by the nhs from the equipment service for free or you can rent them privately

Following as my DM needs a different bed. How do you get an OT to visit?

I rang the surgery and the Local Authority and kept on until I got a number to contact them.
