Elderly parents

Anger and hostility

I don't have any idea what has caused my DM's recent and worsening anger and hostility. I really don't think it's dementia as she can list who is Prime Minister or President of most countries and doesn't seem particularly forgetful. She is however often very angry and flies off the handle very easily. For example she gets very angry if she is interrupted during a phone call but on Monday I was literally in the middle of saying something about a visit to a family member when she tried to start talking about something else. I then continued with what I'd been saying to be met with screaming and swearing calling me a 'fucking selfish bitch' before slamming the phone down. She will not answer phone to me or respond to texts 48 hours later. She also has a habit of saying all the time 'I'm not interested' to things others say but would become furious if anyone said this to her. Is this just bad temper and elderly frustration or worrying behavioural changes that could signal cognitive decline? Has anyone experienced anything similar? I think it's the unfairness which gets me. If someone tested her the way she treats me there would be hell to pay!

How old is she? She most likely has a uti

She's 88. Wouldn't you have symptoms of a UTI like blood in pee or pain urinating?

Dementia is not just forgetting things, people etc. Mood changes and depression are associated symptoms and quite often the beginning. I know it will be hard to reason with her but a gp is appointment is they next step

I don't think she would explain things accurately to her GP. In her mind it is others not treating her with enough respect and care and not being 'caring' towards the elderly. She thinks we're all selfish.

Raging UTI he went home like a lamb after a few days
