Financial assessment

Any advice, Dad had a fall, probably needs some in home care when out of rehab. Council called today re financial assessment

Long story short, parents got in financial difficulties 20+ years ago. I got a mortgage on their house, I’ve been told today the money they pay to me to pay the mortgage can’t be counted as expenditure as its to a close family member. I’ve also been told that their actual fuel bills can’t be taken into account (£475 a month!)

Anyone any idea if this is correct (or where I should go for advice).

That all sounds rather odd. There is a form that will need to be completed setting out your father's income, savings etc and outgoings which includes an "other information" section which I suggest you make full use of including any supporting paperwork. The LA has to make adecision and provide a written outcome which can be challenged on your father's behalf if the outcome is unfavourable. Age UK 's website has excellent information about financial assessment. Good luck!

Thanks for responding.

ill look at the website. My dad was the main wage earner and has a pension to support him and mum. But I was told bills would be split equally and she assumed to be able to pay half in the assessment. In reality he pays the mortgage, council tax, utilities, insurances etc. she just pays for food and clothes from her income. See,s wrong this isn’t considered?
