Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone else has been or is in a similar position?
My dad lives abroad permanently in a currently Red country. This will soon change but not seen him for 2 years.
Miss him terribly. I know I'm lucky that we are both safe and well. But has anyone else coped with a long distance parent or child situation.
Any thoughts so greatly received x

Not really comparable but up to the end of July I hadn't seen my younger son for a year - hadn't hugged him for 18 months. Although it was hard it wasn't the same as not seeing an elderly relative. Hopefully restrictions are starting to ease and you will be able to be reunited before long.

I think a lot of people are coping with similar things. One friend hasn’t seen her son for two years, another has been separated from her grandmother who brought her up.

How to cope? Whatever communication you can, whatsapp, zoom, letters and cards, small gifts just to say “I’m thinking of you “. And don’t look ahead further than the next zoom call.

I was really worried your parents had disappeared (were missing).

Most people missed their loved ones / older parents during the past year and a half, it's been terrible but necessary.
You use WhatsApp video, text, call instead to keep in touch. Hugs can come when you do see him. He lives abroad anyway so you'll be used to fairly long periods inbetween seeing him - except recently it's will have been scarier and longer.

We all miss our older parents during lockdown and travel restrictions
I don't understand purpose of this post ? OP hasn't returned to the thread. Is OP not experiencing what we all have experienced in multiple nations across the globe?
Yes it has been isolating and sad, but it was to keep people safe ...
