LPA access code

Hi, I have a meeting with the bank today and they have asked me to bring my power of attorney access code.

POA was registered in July 2020 and I never received a code. The meeting is in an hour (they’ve just phoned to ask for it), my solicitor is understandably unable to get back to me in time, and the public guardian office has a huge queue (I’m number 47 😭).

Can anyone help with where I’d find this? Would it have been on the original letter, the certificate (at the solicitors) or on a different letter sent out later?

Sorry and Thankyou!

The date is important:

If the LPA was registered on or after 17 July 2020, your activation key is in the letter you got telling you the LPA had been registered.

If the LPA was registered between 1 September 2019 and 16 July 2020, you can use this service to ask for an activation key. You’ll need the LPA reference number.

The page you want is here

You could just tell them you don't have one and show them the paper copy. They have to have a method of dealing with that because pre 2019 LPA won't have a code.

Thankyou. It was on the letter sent to the solicitor rather than the one sent to me.

I got through to the office and they cut me off, so I was on hold for an hour in the end. They have given me the codes to activate an online account.

Bank were very helpful and are willing to wait for the paper copy. I’m just a bit stressed out as we’ve encountered problem after problem with this relative lately, and it’s exhausting trying to keep up.

Thankyou both 😊

I didn’t realise we were supposed to get one, we were one of the first on the new scheme.

They have said they’re working towards getting codes to all LPA but obviously that’ll take time. I think they’re working to 2019 dates at the moment.

They are able to give you a new one if you don’t have access to it. They’ve done that for me today. It’s not set up yet as I need the copies of the certificates to do that.
