Yes, I knew of the service, but I work in heathcare. They are expensive though and more aimed at people who have no friends or relatives within a short distance.
We got mum nan a call alert alarm she wears. You pre-programme 3 numbers on it and the alarm will call each number till someone answers. If it goes around the cycle and no one has picked up, it then goes through to the ambulance service. I had to record a message on the call alert stating something like 'This is Jean, I've pressed my call alert and need assistance. My address is .....'. Some of these companies do offer the live person chatting option, but as said, they are much more expensive.
