mat alarms

Hi all, has any of you ever bought a mat with an alarm to put on the floor next to a dparent's bed - the idea being that if dm starts to get out of bed in the night the live-in carer will hear the alarm and go and check that dm doesn't fall?

I've been browsing the internet but there seem to be many that are telecare and linked up to a central monitoring station. Dm doesn't need that (she already has a pendant alarm linked to a central monitoring station to detect falls from standing) - and the mat would be purely to alert the person living-in before she falls. I am getting confused by the array of products, so if anyone has ever bought one of these I'd be most grateful for any tips!

Falls mat. We use them in hospital it goes on the bed when they move it goes off

Thanks growthrough - yes I'd seen the bed ones as well. I'd been thinking of the floor ones where the alarm goes off if dparent puts their foot on it, so the carer can rush to the bedside to prevent falling as they get out.

I was thinking you might get false alarms with the bed ones if someone is mobile enough to move around in bed eg sitting up to read! Is that an issue at all?

You need a falls mat but will the carer be able to rush up immediately and go to check. They could be fast asleep and not hear it straight away.

this is the sort of thing you would need, plus you could have a crash mat which is a sort of thin mattress that goes on the floor
