Continuing Health Care - Retrospective Claim

My mum had Alzheimer’s and was in a care home for 5 years. She died in May 2019. She was very poorly for the last two years – bed bound, non verbal. We paid for her care out of her savings. She was never assessed for complex needs. I believe my mum may have been entitled to NHS continuing health care and want to find out if we can retrospectively claim for this. I just wondered if anyone had ever done this? Thanks.

Do a search on this board and on "Dementia" - I think someone was trying to apply retrospectively a couple of months back.

When I looked into CHC I contacted a firm called Compass. After my initial email they telephoned me and we had a fairly long chat where they told me what they thought my chances of success were. They didn't charge me for their advice during the call but sent an email stating their fees if I did then use their services.

I would try and make some enquires first with Compass or similar companies. The CHC claim I made has absolutely mentally drained me and I was pretty confident we had a good case. It's still ongoing 18 months in, my parent has since died, sometimes I wish I'd never heard about CHC.

AgeUK may help - I too had a free consultation from a firm similar to Compass (it may have been Compass) and in my case the referral was through AgeUK. Apparently the Government is funding 1/2hr/1hr? free consultation for everyone referred by AgeUK. And if you don't use the whole of your free time in the first consultation, you can save the rest up for another consultation.

Sorry not to reply sooner. Thanks very much for your responses MereDint and TheCooler . It does look a very long shot.
