MIL in France

I'll try and keep this brief but I wondered if anyone had been in a similar situation. MIL (french national) is currently in Hospital in France and we have received a message from her husband asking for full names, addresses etc of all her children as he is putting in a claim for assistance when she is discharged from Hospital. A quick look on the internet suggests that adult children (this extends to inlaws) can be made to cover care costs in France even if they live abroad. I wondered if anyone had any experience of this and whether it is means tested etc.

No experience, but it is means tested, and I found this
