Anxiety Over MRI Scan

My elderly Mum needs to have a hip and lower back MRI scan. She is suffering from general anxiety at the moment and is also claustraphobic. I know I can ask her GP or the hospital for something to help, but just wondered if anyone knows if you go in feet or head first for a hip MRI?

I went in feet first for a scan on my liver, but my head ended up going a little way into the scanner too.
I'm horrendously claustrophobic and really struggled...
Go to your mums gp, and they will prescribe diazepam...it helped a little. Tell the staff in the scanning room...they were great. My dh was allowed in the room with me and held my hand the whole time (and ended up half in the scanner too!)

I wish your mum all the best. Thanks

Thank you! You're right, I need to take a several pronged approach to try and mitigate her distress. I think it's worse because she has huge anxiety at the moment anyway, but I'm seeing her GP on Monday with her so I can ask about that (amongst many other things!) then. Thank you!
