Tattoo causing distress

DGran has a tattoo. Looking at it is as she is seeing it for the first time and it is horrible for her. She will scream and will be very frightened and won't be able to calm down. Have tried skin coloured plasters over it, which don't help as she will tear at them. Anything I would do if I had a tattoo now won't be suitable for her- due to the type of tattoo and because it would distress her a lot. Ideas?

Was this done to her in the war ? Could it be lasered away

As a temporary thing could you somehow make it into a flower with permanent marker pen or something ? Sorry can't think of anything else

What/where is the tattoo? I'm guessing mummylin is wondering if it's a concentration camp type thing, but I'm thinking gran must be 90 or so for this to be the case, so relatively unlikely.

I think the only alternative ( as I'm sure if she's got dementia such that her tattoo is distressing her, she isn't going to be suitable for tattoo removal of any sort) is to continue covering it up with a " your skin us a bit poorly" explanation. Some sort of tubular bandage that feels more like clothing maybe?

Could you talk with her Dr, do they know her well enough to help?

veil cover cream make up I use it to hide rosacea but it covers tattoos as well. easy to apply and wont wear off easily. can be prescribed by a doctor.

If she has dementia then I have seen people's tattoos covered up with permanat pen. It's reapplied as it starts to fade. It's not painful. It can't be removed either.

This is going to be a ticking time bomb with increasing dementia and the heavily inked population. I can see how the "ripped skin with muscle beneath" type stuff would be completely messing with your head if you have dementia!

drastic I know but an operation to remove it? I know you say she would be distressed but that is a short term distress when compared to the repeated distress for the rest of her life as she sees it over and over.
