Has your @outstanding' secondary raced to be an Academy by Sept this year?

Apparently many have!

What do you think about it?

Ours is biding its time and watching that space which I am very pleased about. I do think it odd that there seems to be a need to interfere at all if a school is already judged to be 'outstanding'.

I have an idea why the governmet are doing this: to try and give the name 'academy' a higher status as currently it appears to denote a dire, failing inner city comprehensive that had a complete make over and huge cash injection in order to try and turn it around- with mixed results, I gather!

Is it not? I didn't spot that!

The first list is not sorted properly - looks like it is made up of several lists joined together. Second one is.

I suppose some schools got in early and others have done a last minute expression of interest and in order to get them onto the list ASAP, thaey've just tagged them on as they've come in. It's likely to be a rushed thing I reckon.

What exactly is an Academy as opposed to normal school?

Same teachers? Same teaching? I don't understand what its all about. Can someone enlighten me please?

I wish I knew BGB. My Ds said it has a lot to do with funding, but I feel sure it can't be only money.

Our school is on there, not surprised really.

BigGreenBin · 02/07/2010 14:32

Are there any schools not on there???

The list of ones applying goes on for ever and the list of ones expressing an interest must be all the rest!

Is this because the word 'Academy' sounds superior. Bet it makes no difference in the sightest.

There is no more money for schools so think it is all a load of bolleaux

I don't think the primary that Ds went to and Dd will go to is on there ~ yet!

I think both lists are are schools that have registered an interest BGB, but one list is for schools with 'outstanding' and the other is non outstanding in OFSTED results. Have I got that right?
