Just wondering. What is usually defined as the main entrance?? Admin policy to our school is nearest to main entrance. We have got in but DS friend hasn't. They live closer to what I thought was main entrance than someone who has got in. Kids go in through school gate via back entrance. Staff and adults go in front, which I thought was main entrance.

You need to check with the education authority what definition and method of measurement is used. Eg our local school it is defined:

Distance is measured by a straight line from the address point of the pupil's house, as set by Ordnance Survey to the nearest school gate for pupils to use.

Sorry, meant to add, some places measure as the crow flies, some by shortest walking route on public footpaths.

Our main entrance is where the reception desk is for visitors rather than any of the doors children enter by.

Thanks will check with LA. I know it is "in a straight line". Remember reading about an OS map and something about where children enter. Can't remember where I read it tho.

Usually the main entrance is the one reserved for teachers / parents / visitors and the one that often the children are not allowed to use
