Anyone want to join a year 13 UCAS THREAD?

We can join in stressing about ucas forms interviews etc?

I am finding it all a very steep learning curve - we could support one another - celebrate and commiserate?

last one in - he got an offer of BBB from LSE, but he does not want to be in london so its a nice offer to have but he wont accept!

ajandjjmum · 16/02/2010 09:04

That's great. Does he know what he'll select yet? I think ds needs to wait for his module exams, as they didn't go as well as he'd hoped.

lazymumofteenagesons · 16/02/2010 11:00

well actually the durham first choice is still in college, but their standard offer for that course is AAA, so if it comes through this will be his firm (combined honours in social sciences), the other durham offer is ABB (sociology and anthropology) this will be his insurance.

ajandjjmum · 16/02/2010 15:10

Oooh - I'm jealous. Sort of guaranteed Durham.

Does anyone know what date the January module results come out? DS says March, but knows nothing more! Thanks in advance.

larry5 · 18/02/2010 19:50

Anyone else visit Aberystwyth yesterday. Dd had had an offer and was invited to see the place. We were not impressed by the lecturers we saw so she has now crossed Aber off her list. We are quite happy with that having had the most awful drive to get there with road hold ups, snow, sleet, fog and rain on the way there.

Next week we are off to Cardiff who are the only uni she has applied to who have not made her an offer yet.

Her favourite at the moment is Keele to do Maths with Glamorgan as her insurance choice.

lazymumofteenagesons · 18/02/2010 21:57

I think the Jan module results come out on march 11th (thursday)

brimfull · 18/02/2010 23:06

dd still waiting to hear from sheffield

lowrib · 19/02/2010 00:22

Is anyone else still waiting for a Brighton offer?

ajandjjmum · 19/02/2010 09:38

lazymum
I was told they were out on Friday, 12th???
Just noticed I'm doubly impressed with your Durham situation!

lazymumofteenagesons · 19/02/2010 11:49

Thanks Ajandjjmum. But the actual offer hasn't come through on UCAS yet, its still sitting in college. Also he needs to do alot of work to get 3 As because he has missed quite alot of school recently. He is talking about emailing after accepting the offer to see if he can drop an A2 cos he is doing 4. I think that is a shame after all this time he is almost there and sometimes I think doing 4 gives you some leeway to mess one up. Which offers is your DC going to accept?

ajandjjmum · 19/02/2010 12:55

If it's in college, I'm sure it'll come through. Horrible waiting though!

DS is going to wait and see if he messed up his modules as much as he thought. Whatever, I think he'll choose Durham as his firm, if the modules were OK, UCL as insurance (AAB) and if the results aren't so OK, Sheffield (ABB).

Funnily enough DS has had time off school recently, and has also found love (!!!), so we really need to get him to re-focus. The trouble with A levels as they are nowadays (rather than in my time!!), is that you can't fall short for just a couple of months, otherwise you really pay the penalty.

I just keep reminding him that he's on the home straight, and it would be a real shame to let all this effort slip.

lazymumofteenagesons · 19/02/2010 18:26

DS1s first choice Durham offer through on UCAS track. AAA in any 3 of his 4 subjects and I think I have persuaded him to keep going with 4 so that if he messes up in an exam he still has the chance of 3 As. If things get too much he can always just do minimal work on his History. They have not specified which subjects the grades need to be in.

brimfull · 19/02/2010 20:40

congrats to you ds lazymum!
clever boy!

dd still waiting for sheffield

ajandjjmum · 20/02/2010 10:36

Keeping fingers crossed for your dd ggirl - it does seem unfair that the unis are still keeping people waiting.

lazymumofteenagesons · 20/02/2010 11:26

THanks ggirl, we are very proud of him. 5 offers.

If its any consolation I think they would have rejected by now at Sheffield, at least she is still in with a chance. She can try emailing with the excuse of having to organise open days or something just to see what stage her application might be in. Is sheffield her first choice and has she chosen an insurance one?

brimfull · 20/02/2010 15:29

SHe's had offers from Leeds, Cardiff, Reading and Swansea so far but Sheffield is going to be her firm if she gets an offer.

Her friend has already been rejected by sheffield for the same course so hopefully that means they are atleast thinking of giving her an offer.

lazymumofteenagesons · 27/02/2010 19:37

Just thought I'd bump this thread to keep it in view. Also any more news GGirl?

brimfull · 28/02/2010 21:39

no she still hasnt heard from sheffield
she called them last week and was told it may be a few more weeks yet

brimfull · 03/03/2010 20:42

bumping this thread

anyone know when sheffield's economics or language department open days are?

dd still waiting to hear from them

ajandjjmum · 04/03/2010 08:48

Can't help you with the open days, but sending 'get a move on vibes' for your dd. You'd have thought that they'd had enough time now!

JGBMum · 08/03/2010 11:33

Morning everyone,

Just wondering, did any of your DCs take part in the "Head Start" programme for Y12s?
(Slightly off at a tangent I know, but the thread has gone soooo quiet)
DS has just been offered a place at a Head Start Engineering course at Southampton (5 days in July) and wondered if anyone else has done this and can pass on words of experience?

violetqueen · 08/03/2010 15:53

Oh ,keep checking this thread every now and then.
All the talk is of AAA ,AAB .
So that's it then really isn't it ?
Uni only for the AAA's .

lazymumofteenagesons · 08/03/2010 18:00

Anyone is welcome to contribute to this thread. It really makes no difference what grades or what courses. Each application to university should be suited to the applicants interests and abilities and therefore the same celebration of achievements applies whether AAA or CCC.
