Because it is BC (before christ) the numbers count down, not up like years AD (anno domini, the year of our lord)

it's possible he did though, or as is more likely that the dates are wildly inaccurate due to how long ago it was an how much information has become confused in the intervening years.

if it's an reputable source i'd just use those dates, possibly with a footnote explaining you've noticed the unusual age but as you have no other dates to go on you've decided to use thse

because my brain has a little empty vacuum where mathematical capability should be
