I'm not gloating so don't flame me, I need your advice. If your year 5 child had just done really well in the 'SATS', would you look for an academic secondary? Where would you go from here?

He's just turned 10 so a little year 5 and has scored bottom of level 5 (5a?) for english and top level 5 for maths (5c?). Should I be chatting to his teachers about this? I need to start looking for a secondary school for him but I don't know how to go about it or what to look for.

TIA.

FluffyBunny - 5a is higher than 5c so he is doing better in English than Maths. DD got all level 5s in Y5 (and she was not alone)but the school were still able to stretch these children in Y6. 10 of them did Y7 QCAs after their Sats in Y6 and she got level 6s at that stage. I have to say she is bright but not anymore than that!

Just reread your op - he is obviously doing better in maths than English - I think you have just got the grades the wrong way round. 5a is higher than 5c is what I was trying to say!
