Ok whose little darlings are doing their KS2 SATs very soon?

I'm already going head to head with ds about early nights over the next week or so!

OP posts:

Our Year 6 teacher thinks her class have done really bad this year She hasn't told them this of course.

My nephew thinks he got on really well in the Maths today. He knows he scored 19 out of 20 on the mental maths, he is a right show off when he wants to be, but well done to him.

She's spot on there Orinocco!!

piffle · 13/05/2005 13:23

lol orinoco!!!
Ds said he got all the mental maths right and says he completed the 2nd paper in 15 mins, spent 20 mins checking anre checking along with the other maths inspired lad in the class, then they sat largely bored!
He has been very cocky about these, I am hoping he does not get a rude chock at results time
Are the sats age standardised as well or simply marks out of a percentage?

Potty1 · 13/05/2005 13:29

Piffle - pleeeeeeeese ask your ds the answer to the last maths question yesterday.

They aren't age standardised just a mark/percentage that gives the level. Eg the mark to get a level 4 could be 55 and then say 80 for a level 5. Not sure if the 'pass' mark, so to speak, is the same each year though and I think its a probably different for each subject.

piffle · 13/05/2005 13:47

he said that hardest question was one he had to draw
Maybe a different question or he went seriously wonky LOL
Will ask when he gets home!

Well it's over - dd says things went a bit pear-shaped today, she panicked and basically lost the plot . She said she thinks she's failed I've told her that she did her best and its good enough.

saffy202 · 13/05/2005 16:10

Ds1 said the answer should have been 40. He had put 42.
Said todays was easy

saffy202 · 13/05/2005 16:14

Forgot to say how pleased I am that they are over. Good luck to everyone for when the results come out in July

The answer to the final question on paper A was 42.

There was a shape with a chunk out of one side and an equal chunk sticking out of the opposite side, of overall length 10cm. When two of the shapes were stuck together the total length was 18cm. They gave the children a row of 5 of the shapes stuck together.

From the two shapes stuck together you could deduce that the overlap (where the sticky out chunk stuck in to the missing chunk) was 2cm, leaving the main body of the each shape as 8cm. (8cm + 8cm + 2cm = 18cm)
So there were 5 shapes @ 8cm each, and an extra sticky out chunk of 2cm giving a total length of 42cm. ((8 x 5) + 2 = 42)

Paper B was generally harder, some simple topics were covered in a more difficult way than was strictly necessary. The answer to the final question was 0.15g in case you're interested.

Janh · 13/05/2005 16:47

42 is The Ultimate answer to Life, the Universe and Everything, isn't it, lol!

Doddle · 13/05/2005 16:48

That's just what I said to the bemused child who asked what the answer was to the last question after the test!!

Potty1 · 13/05/2005 17:20

Dd will be pleased - she put 42 so at least she's got one right!

Yes, I agree, I thought that they made some of the simpler topics more confusing than necessary, like the probability question in reverse today, and the ratio and proportion question where they had to take into consideration three types of fruit. The final questions were reasonably straightforward.

Most of the children I teach are EAL, so the confused wordings this year did them no favours

piffle · 13/05/2005 20:18

My Ds is reading Hitchhikers Guide at the moment as well and giggled at 42 as well.
He has just explained that question to me and I still feel quite giddy aunted at it!
Dh is a physics graduate and deduced 48!
So that's it over with now, ds said todays paper was fine too....

Janh · 13/05/2005 21:16

Do you think it's a Sign? The exam setter thinks there will be no more SATs so that was the Ultimate Answer?

piffle · 13/05/2005 21:20

An ironic SATS paper, that means my ds will hark back to the SATS reverentially in his later years...

piffle · 13/05/2005 21:21

Ds just pointed out that it was in the penultimate paper though...
Pedant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fimbo · 16/05/2005 21:28

My dd is 6 and in year 2 and is currently doing her SATS, although she is blissfully unaware as her school refers to it as "special work". How/when do you get informed of their results?

kid · 16/05/2005 21:34

Year 5 start their QCA'a next week
