Ok whose little darlings are doing their KS2 SATs very soon?

I'm already going head to head with ds about early nights over the next week or so!

Beetroot - that is such a clear table, I think you should get it published

I know the levels, but I always have to 'work them out' in my head.

Potty1 · 10/05/2005 18:07

Dd said the science was easy too. She enjoyed the long writing test today but did 'rubbish' in the spelling - compared notes with her mates I think.

saffy202 · 10/05/2005 18:20

Apparently one girl was disqualified today for asking a question from someone near her

swedishmum · 10/05/2005 19:24

Piffle, from what I know about invigilating, the teacher is totally out of order. You can give no indication of how you think a child has performed. I know for a fact that it goes on in loads of schools though ( runs for cover as good primary teachers reach for their guns - wd like to add that I know for a fact it doesn't happen in dd's school, just sad experience from GCSE moderation).

pindy · 10/05/2005 19:28

Yes, ds thought science was good, the english today was also good, another year without a story!!! last year dd did her KS2 sats - no story then. English comp tomorrow and then maths on Thursday & Friday- then all finished! Thank goodness

Good luck to all those taking SATs and the mums and dads who just have to wish them luck

kid · 10/05/2005 19:35

I supervised a the science and writing test today. Is it the same paper that everyone sits?
Year 5 also did the spelling test today.

BellaLasagne · 10/05/2005 20:08

(Hi Shirlz - I'm in Herefordshire too. 2 children, no animals yet maybe some goats soon!)

Sorry to hijack......

piffle · 11/05/2005 11:18

ds thinks he aced the spelling, said the hardest word was disease. And he has his least fave today, the reading comprehension. He likes to think outside the box today he will just have to be in the box a bit.
He is dying to do the maths ones...

beachyhead · 11/05/2005 11:21

are year 3's doing them, because my dd came home and said they had tests all week. I thought they were only in yr 2 and yr 6........?????

roisin · 11/05/2005 11:26

Beachyhead - yes, most schools do 'optional SATs' for yrs 3, 4, and 5. Our school haven't told us it's happening, as often it's the parents who stress the kids about it! But they are certainly doing it. In fact ds1 (yr3) has been having assessment tests in other subjects (Geography, RE, Art, PE) too.
He's had 4 or 5 tests a day so far this week I guess they just want to get them all over and done with.

Fortunately ds1 enjoys them, so it's not a problem. But tbh it seems a bit of a "waste of a teaching week". I'm certainly not interested in grades or test marks for 7-8 yr-olds.

dottee · 11/05/2005 11:32

Feedback from my ds:

science on Monday was easy
literacy yesterday was OK - teacher read long piece of writing over ds's shoulder and said later it was good - was a playscript or similar apparently?

Ds feeling more confident as week is going on. His school's doing 'fun things' like quick cricket during non SATs time.

p.s. thanks for explanation Beety - that's helped a thicko mum!

saffy202 · 11/05/2005 13:17

Ds1 thought the hardest spelling was essential - however he got it right as he remembered Chelsea were interested in a player called Essen - in his life everything comes back to footie

He also had to write a piece about his favourite meal - I'm no great cook but my speciality is corned beef casserole - it's actually very nice -at the end he wrote Jamie Oliver couldn't do better or words to that effect - suppose it's topical

kid · 11/05/2005 13:24

I can't remember all the spellings they had but some were: essential, material, physical, washing, process. It was all about bacteria and the process it goes through. Thats all I can remember, but I think there was about 19 words.

The long writing was a play script. They had to write a script about wanting to stay up late.

Doddle · 11/05/2005 13:26

Feel a bit of a fraud on this thread, but as a Y6 teacher I do feel as if I've 30 of my own children taking the SATs!!

From a teacher's perspective in case anyone is interested:

Science A was very straightforward, Science B was fine although some of the questions were worded badly,

English short writing was fine, they had to describe their favourite meal, long writing was a reasonably straightforward playscript (although what use being able to write a playscript is, is another story),

Spellings were the easiest i've seen for years,

Comprehension was dull, the booklet was uninspiring, and some of the questions were deceptively hard.

Here's hoping for a breeze of a Maths paper tomorrow!!

popsycal · 11/05/2005 13:27

i am so gld to be on maternity leave

kid · 11/05/2005 13:42

The year 6 teacher at our school is quite stressed out about the SATS. She doesn't want the class to worry but at the same time, she wants them to do well. They are planning a class party on Friday or a day out to celebrate the end of SATS!

beachyhead · 11/05/2005 13:56

Thanks - so in the optional ones, do you think we will get told the results ( and spend hours trying to decipher them)...........???

roisin · 11/05/2005 14:01

I expect we will get the results of these tests as part of the end of year report. And I will come back to this thread and scroll down to Beetroot's excellent post of 12:01:17 yesterday to work out what they mean ... LOL!

tiddlypom · 11/05/2005 14:15

Ds revealed this morning that the thing he enjoys most about SATs is that they go out and do 10 minutes of skipping - yes, that's jumping rope - before they start doing them.

One of the many reasons I love their school
