Anyone know what a 'whirling words' story is??

DS2 was meant to find one or make one up for his drama class on Friday.

He's struggling to explain to me what it is - something about words that sound the same??

Has anyone come across this, and can you explain please!!

If you google it you get quite an interesting mixture of possibilities. Shakespeare, a book of poetry and a game from Crayola where you have to make up words. Maybe you should call someone whose DC is in the same class as yours?

SM - yes - I've just been doing that too - it's not immediately obvious is it?

I've just e-mailed the teacher!

BTW - he's only 6, so it's unlikely to be Shakespeare!!

Does he mean words that sound the same as what is being described? Can't remember what they are called.

Whoosh
Crash
Bang
Flash
Swish

etc.

ONOMATOPOEIA - Words which sound like the noise they describe.
Example: swish, cuckoo, smack

Oooh is this a chance to share one of my favourite bad jokes:

When Aladdin rubbed his lamp then his genie would on a mat appear onomatopoeia.

Aargh! Here's the answer I got from his teacher:

"Whirling words is a story I read to the children and we acted out a scene from the story or they could make up their own."

Helpful, huh????

Legacy - this is just the start - we spend every weekend trying to figure put what our children 's homework is... The best advice is to get an email list together of parents in the class, so even if you are not able to meet people @ drop off/pick up then yuo can compare notes and decipher the jargon - good luck!!!
